![]() Papa This is my great grandfather. Like me, he had a desire to write pop songs and try to get them into people's ears. I found myself in possession of the only four records left of his 1930's recordings. My friend Ryk played them on a restored Gramophone for me so I could record the songs onto hard disc with a SM-57 sticking into the horn of the thing. My Grandma Marie says that "Papa" went to Hollywood and paid these session players (piano and voice) to play his music. Though it is his name on the records, Grandma also let me know that her mother had a great part in the songwriting and came up with most of the piano voicings and arrangements. Papa was the lyric and melody guy….Sounds very scratchy and dated but it is a beautiful family heirloom to me.
